What is an examination table?

Examination couches (also called examination tables) are a type of table specifically designed to support patients during examination by a healthcare professional. They are usually found in settings like a doctor’s office, hospital or therapy facility and ABCO Health Care manufactures a range of examination couches to suit all settings and requirements.

Features of ABCO exam tables

They are designed with comfort and easy use in mind, for both patient and caregiver. ABCO’s examination tables are designed to match the recommendations of the RACGP, and include features such as:

- Electric height and backrest adjustment: Electric foot control of the height adjustment allows for ease of use and leaves both hands free for treatment. Hand control is also available with our tables providing full control.
- Large weight capacity of up to 350kg
- Medical grade heavy duty vinyl fabric which allows for easy cleaning and longer life of the table surface. The vinyl fabric is designed to inhibit hardening and breakdown of the PVC surface due to perspiration and oils, it is also fire -retardant, sanitised and stain resistant.
- Exam tables such as the ABCO 2 Section Examination Couch include a minimum height of 45cm which makes it suitable for disabled or elderly access.
- Retractable wheels, meaning movement of the examination table is made easy without compromising stability.
- Upholstered Cot sides which are an optional feature attachable to ABCO’s 2 section - Examination Couches. A side barrier fixed to the table, they provide extra security for patients.
- Lithotomy Knee Supports which are also an optional feature attachable to ABCO’s examination couches. Lithotomy supports are specifically designed to provide excellent support and comfort for the patient, come with 360° rotation and are height adjustable to 200mm and can be positioned up to 150mm from the edge of the couch.

Frequently asked questions

Two section tables are ergonomically sized to provide more flexibility in use compared to a table without adjustability. The backrest section of the table can be adjusted independently of the fixed section, which means that patients can be positioned flat on the table for examination or can sit upright at an adjustable angle, depending on the need at the time.

A three-section table provides even more added comfort and flexibility with a central fixed section and two independently controllable sections; the head section, the seat/back rest section and the foot section. The short section can be used as a head rest or footrest and the long section as a backrest or leg support depending on the requirements at the time.
